Abhishek Banerjee Attacked in Sonarpur: TMC Slams BJP Over West Bengal Law & Order Crisis

Political tensions rise in West Bengal as Trinamool Congress and BJP trade accusations over law and order

Kolkata, West Bengal: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee was escorted out of Sonarpur by security personnel after a mob allegedly attacked and manhandled him during a visit to the area. The incident has triggered a fresh political confrontation between the ruling TMC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Videos and images circulating on social media showed security personnel surrounding Banerjee and moving him away from the crowd amid chaos. Reports indicate that eggs were allegedly thrown during the confrontation, creating a tense situation on the ground.

Reacting to the incident, TMC leaders launched a strong attack on the BJP, accusing the party of creating an atmosphere of fear and violence in the state. Party leaders questioned the law and order situation, arguing that if a sitting Member of Parliament such as Abhishek Banerjee could face such an attack, ordinary citizens would feel even more vulnerable.

TMC raised concern about the such incident

The TMC also raised concerns about the impact such incidents could have on investor confidence in West Bengal. According to party leaders, political violence and public disorder could discourage new investments and affect the state’s image.

West Bengal BJP President  rejected all alligation

West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya rejected allegations of BJP involvement in the incident.

“There is no BJP involvement in the egg-pelting and manhandling incident. People know how TMC has governed the state for the last 15 years. The police and administration should focus on families affected by post-poll violence. TMC has no moral or political right to visit them and make comments,” Bhattacharya said while responding to the controversy.

The BJP leader further alleged that several families had suffered due to post-poll violence and accused the TMC of ignoring their concerns. He maintained that the opposition party had no role in the attack on Banerjee.

The incident comes at a time when political rivalry between the TMC and BJP remains intense across West Bengal. Both parties have frequently accused each other of political violence, intimidation and disturbing public order.
